Back to the Future: Kaluga

In anticipation of the launch I of the All-Russian Pharmaceutical Run, we publish historical essays on the history of the development of the healthcare system and pharmacology in the cities participating in the large-scale action. Indeed, respect for traditions, support for the old school, the transfer of best practices and a healthy mentoring system are key to the development of a successful future. The pharmaceutical industry is no exception.

The history of healthcare in the Kaluga Region officially began in the late eighteenth century with the founding of the Kaluga Order of Public Charity. In general, Kaluga was also rich in various almshouses, invalid homes, shelters and other social institutions that were created thanks to local philanthropists. The year 1910 was marked by the creation of & nbsp; the first in Kaluga Syzran-Vyazemsky hospital.

With the October Revolution, the network of specialized medical institutions grew and expanded.

Today, the Kaluga region is a rapidly developing region of the country. New mushrooms grow like mushrooms after rain. So a new pharmaceutical plant was built in Grabtsevo in 2013, which will not only equip Kaluga Region with high-quality medicines, but will also contribute to the development of a regional pharmaceutical cluster. The evolution of the medical and pharmaceutical industry through the creation of territorial clusters is the most important innovation in the development and strengthening of the country, finally resolving the shortage of high-quality medicines and creating a favorable background for increasing demography and human saving. In general, historically, the Kaluga region is known for the manufacture of medicines.

In 2011, the cluster “Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnologies and Biomedicine” was organized in the Kaluga Region, with a special focus on preclinical and clinical research, development, synthesis and implementation of pharmaceutical substances and radiopharmaceuticals in the production, industrial production of finished drugs and pharmaceutical substances, infusion solutions and parenteral nutrition. The construction of the Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster will be a valuable experience for other regions.

Kaluga is also attractive for investments by foreign pharmaceutical companies. In 2015, an agreement was signed between the Kaluga Region and Berlin-Pharma on the implementation of an investment project in the region for the construction of a logistics complex.
